What's happening at Tour & Taxis.

Hôtel des Douanes is part of the Tour & Taxis development and located along Avenue du Port and Rue Picard in 1000 Brussels. The official address is Rue Picard 1-3, 1000 Brussels.

More than 100 years after it was built, the Hôtel des Douanes will be an exemplary office redevelopment, combing a respectful heritage preservation, extreme sustainability and optimal circularity. Heating, ventilation, and cooling of the workspace surfaces are realised through geothermal energy, and cooling and heating radiant ceilings, without the use of any fossil fuel. Electricity is partly produced with photovoltaic panels on the roof. LED light fixtures dim automatically in function of daylight or absence of staff. A BREEAM Outstanding is targeted (assessment ongoing), as well as a DNGB gold and WELL Platinum certification.

The Building or part thereof is not listed as an “heritage building”, but the prevailing “Plan Particulier des Sols Tour & Taxis” also including the Building, states that the essential components of it need to be treated as if these were part of a listed building (facades, roofs, historical staircases, counters on ground floor, …). The Building benefits a valid building permit (“Permis d’Urbanisme”), exempted from any recourse, delivered by the City of Brussels on March 25th 2008 for the use as “offices”, as well as an environmental permit (“Permis d’Environnement”). A new environmental permit will soon be filed for the use of geothermic energy.

Under the basements of the Sheds we are currently working on creating an Indoor Secured Bike Parking. This will allow each Tour & Taxis visitor to place his/her bike in a safe storage. 

In order to improve the openness of our great Tour & Taxis site. We are opening up the exterieur walls to show to the neighbourhood that this site is part of the public environment.
